I have never been one to follow trends in fashion. I prefer to stick to what I like, whether it’s “in” or “out.” As it just so happens, culottes, you know, those super cropped wide legged pants of our childhood, are back in. These pants are the adult version – high waisted, still very wide legged but more of an ankle pant than strict culotte. The pants were found at a thrift store and while I’m sure they were given away for being out of style, I was happy to take them on and give them new life.

Monday Chic: Classic Navy and Black

2014-11-30 17.21.00 Happy Monday! How was everyone’s Thanksgiving weekend? I had a glorious 4 days off and did absolutely zero work (post edit – I should probably preface this by saying I was off from my day job and didn’t do any blog/freelance work in my free time. Since I’m used to working ALL the time this is pretty unheard of, for me anyway). We spent a lot of time with family, had lots of great food and leftovers, did a fair amount of sleeping, read a lot, and got to climb at our gym two days in a row. It was the perfect time to rejuvenate and let ideas that have been simmering take a little more shape. We took these photos yesterday with my husband’s fancy new iPhone 6+ because my camera batteries died and I am very impressed with the quality. It won’t stop me from ordering my Nikon D7100, but ya know, it’s good in a pinch. We had some very random but oh so nice warm weather yesterday and I made sure to enjoy it in wide, breezy pants and a light sweater. A good blue and black combo is one I will always love.

Monday Chic: Black and Gold

2014.11.22BlackandGoldIf there was an outfit category for “judging a fashion show and then going to get groceries on a Saturday night” then this is it. On Saturday, I spent most of the day with fellow judges for the VMFA Teen Stylin program. Having worn heels the week before, I knew I wanted something a little more comfortable, but still chic for the longer day and that would hold up for a late night grocery run afterwards (there is nothing worse than grocery shopping in heels). All black seems to be a default for a lot of things: it’s easy to wear, it looks chic, and is very simple to pull off. Here, I opted for flat boots as heels were not an option and built up the outfit from there focusing on all black and one major gold accessory.

Wednesday Chic: Blue is the New Black + #SydneyPageStyle Giveaway Winner

2013.912BlueisthenewBlackI’m so excited to be pulling out my skinny jeans and cardigans. I love the days of pants and layers. These came from Baggio last year and while they aren’t in my typical pants wheel house (black, white, jeans), the navy color acts like black and works well with almost any color scheme. They were my go-tos last year and no doubt will be in full rotation again this fall.

Wednesday Chic: Stacked

2014.7.9StackedIf you follow me on instagram (chicstripes), you may notice behind the scenes pictures from a shoot I styled yesterday. I’ll have more details on the story, snaps and the finished photos in a month or so, but let’s just say 11 people, 4.5 hours in hair and makeup, 3 harps, 1 photographer, 1 videographer, and a blue/black color scheme made for an amazingly fun (but long) shoot.

In other news, I love accessorizing simple outfits with standout accessories. For this, I chose a huge stack of bangles that I received from my grandmother. I don’t know the origin of each one, but she traveled the world (literally), so I like to think they are a small collection of those travels.

Monday Chic: Black and Orange is the New Combo

2014.5.21OrangeistheNewBlackHappy Memorial Day for all of those in the U.S. As a part of my day job, I wrote a grant to provide employment services for homeless veterans and while I am not involved in the day to day activities, I am continually impressed by those who have voluntarily served, and suffered, for our country. I wore this last week to a casual day at the office. Lately my looks have been centered around boyfriend jeans and slouchy tops, not the most inspiring professional look (albeit very comfortable for long bouts of writing). This orange skirt was THE skirt from Banana when it came out several years ago. Now it’s mostly fallen to the way side, but I keep it around and like it paired with the harsh black and gold necklace.
