Wednesday Chic: Poncho

2014.12.9eShakti4Ponchos and capes are huge this season and can be seen everywhere. I hadn’t pulled the trigger on my own yet because as a petite woman it can be hard to find something that is proportionate to my frame or doesn’t overwhelm me. eShakti contacted me back in November to participate in their campaign to spread the word about their custom fit clothing. There were a lot of really fun options to choose from (this, this and this were all on my list) but I gravitated towards this poncho immediately – great colors, faux leather trim, and poncho! because I wanted to add something to my closet that I didn’t already have. The ordering process itself was easy – you choose an item and can either order it “off the rack” (standard size) or take your measurements for a custom fit. They recommend someone take measurements for you, but I managed to take my own and input them into the system. I wasn’t quite sure my arm length and the options were only short, average or long, so I guessed it to be average. You can also choose to have the length of your piece shorted (I wasn’t sure how this would work on a poncho, so I left my length alone). Less than two weeks after my order the item arrived. My initial thought when I first tried it on was worry that it did overwhelm my frame – there was a lot of fabric that bunched especially when tied. Since then, I have worn this piece several times and experimented with tying the belt, arranging the fabric for best fit or just draping it over and it’s evolved into such a comfortable piece to just throw on over jeans or leggings to give an outfit a little bit of interest while still being comfortable. I have noticed a few stray strings here and there (not pulling from seams or anything) and it’s dry clean only, but since I wear it as an outerwear piece, I don’t anticipate needing to dry clean it often. It does attract a lot of lint due to it being wool, but it’s nothing a lint roller can’t fix. There are belt loops in the garment itself, but so far I have just tied the belt around my waist and then adjusted the fabric around to get the look I want. I don’t think this would work for a business office setting (unless you can fill out the piece a little more), but it’s perfect for most of my daily life and I will definitely be taking this with me on our Christmas trip and will be wearing it through the winter.
