Finally breezed through most of the major collections and it’s time for a real round-up post. Here are 3 pieces from each collection that I felt summed up the latest trends.
Marc by Marc Jacobs had me at the bright colors, metallic silks, and oversized sunglasses. Coupled with his reoccurring theme of flowing dresses and socks and boots, we’ll be feminine and strong again this fall.
Rodarte surprised me with their kooky prints, long coats, and superior attention to details. It will be interesting to see how these looks (growing on my steadily) will be translated to the high street come next fall.
Vera Wang showed up as dark, grunge, and a little bit girly. Despite sticking with a neutral color palate, this season, the Vera girl is not one to be messed with.
The Row – huge raccoon-esque hats falling off the models notwithstanding, this was a solid collection featuring lots of black, slim looks, and flats! Apparently Karl had something when he said he was tired of watching women run around in heels, teetering everywhere. The Row has taken this a step up and featured slightly mannish looking brogue flats, but each look is instantly chicer with the addition of the shoe.
Carolina Herrera – demure, sophisticated, perfect for brunch and the Gossip girl set. I could easily see mothers and daughters borrowing from the same collection. Clean cut lines with gorgeous patterns just beg for the individualized accessories and spice a woman brings to her look.
What do you think of the collections so far? If I wasn’t on a time crunch this morning I’d still be pouring over the latest releases from Style.com (3.1 Phillip Lim, Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler and all my other favorites). London FW starts soon, so I’ve gotta get caught up on all the NY madness and fast. Weekend plans anyone?
