Wednesday Chic: Layered Denim

2014.1.4LayeredDenimI wore this last Saturday after my husband and I finally tore ourselves away from our couch. We aren’t used to having Saturdays off and it was nice to spend the morning making breakfast, reading, and just relaxing. By the afternoon, though, I was ready to leave the house, so I booked tickets to see the Hollywood Costume exhibit and made plans to stop by a local mid-century furniture dealer. While we didn’t get any furniture, we loved the exhibit and are already making plans to return. We made the mistake of going 30 minutes before the museum closed and there was just not time to read everything. Each costume from various movies (everything from Cleopatra to Fight Club to Batman to Taxi Driver) had plaques that detailed the film, year, actors, designers, etc. along with quotes from someone relevant to the film. It was so interesting to really delve into how much thought really goes into the costumes for films. A must see for anyone interested in fashion! As far as this outfit is concerned, I’m thinking denim on denim is not going anywhere. I’ve wore this combination only a few times (once here), but really love the ease of making an outfit from two similar fabrics and then finding something small to set it off, like this gorgeously soft Richhard Grand cashmere button down. It made the perfect layering piece for a chilly day.

  1. Alex and I saw the costume exhibit when it first came out! (It’s SO cool!) But we didn’t realize there is also a photo exhibit upstairs, so last weekend we went and saw that :) Both are so cool!

  2. Were going this Friday! Sounds like it is totally worth it. Love the look — esp cashmere. I cannot live without my cashmere fingerless gloves in winter. I do chambray on denim …as close as it gets.

  3. I really want to take my kids and see the costume exhibit….maybe this weekend!

  4. I saw the costume exhibit at the members’ preview — but I was with a group of people who weren’t anywhere NEAR as interested as I was. I really need to go back by myself when I can spend a whole afternoon!

  5. Going to see this exhibit is on my to-do list this month!
