Going into week 3 (weeks 1 and 2 here) of documenting my daily outfits was getting to be second nature. My husband and I had developed a routine: I come home from the gym, get ready for work, he gets ready for work, snap a picture (inside, on couch, porch, outside, wherever) and we’re off for the day. The first two weeks took some getting used to in terms of making time to take the picture as well as thinking through a fashionably, chic, yet comfortable outfit for the day. It is definitely helping me to weed out clothes that have just accumulated in the back of my closet and made me find things that are more modern and feminine and less trendy.
Day 15 – Saturday. Love Saturdays, even though as of late mine have been pretty busy. It is just nice knowing that I don’t to wake up and be anywhere immediately. Today I did my usual Trader Joe’s run and then date night with my husband. We revisited our childhood and hit up the arcade for tokens and fun prizes. It was actually pretty cold out despite the short sleeves. It turned into one of those “here hold my jacket-take the picture-quick” kind of shoots. Outfit details: sheer top, J. Crew; jeans, H&M; boots, Aldo.
Day 16 – Sunday. I got this great Elizabeth and James flowly blouse (yes, my first official designer piece) on eBay and have worn it to death ever since. It goes perfectly for a girls night out or casual brunch day. Here I paired it with my jeans and great short boots I found (I think they are by Fergie. Ironic that I love them so much!). But the roughness of them went super well with the girly shirt, a look I am leaning more and more towards. Outfit details: blouse, Elizabeth and James; jeans, H&M;, boots, Fergalicious.
Day 17 – Monday. This was my favorite outfit of the week hitting everything that I love about fashion from the ugly rather frumpy sweater, dark jeans, scruffed up boots (see yesterday for boot details) and a gorgeous scarf and pop of color. Even though I love this sweater, I’ve always had a hard time nailing down how to wear it. It’s too bulky to be feminine, but I love its warmth and soft cream color. The addition of the scarf was the perfect girly and sophisticated touch. Outfit details: sweater, thrifted; jeans, H&M; boots, Fergalicious; scarf, Festival of India; clutch, thrifted Banana Republic.
Day 18 – Tuesday. This might not be the most inspired outfit I’ve ever had, but I’m loving the soft browns and bright turquoise blue in the bracelet. Oddly enough, the cardigan over sweater was not as bulky or awkward as I thought, coming off as layered. My bracelet was a gift from my husband as he knows I love Native American jewelry from all of my summers spent in Arizona on the Navajo reservation. If I had to give this outfit a context, I would say it was the desert out west. The textures remind me of the mountains and dust while the color is reminiscent of the bright blues of the sky. Outfit details: sweater, Oliva Lava Boutique; wide legged trousers, Banana Republic; cardigan, H&M; boots, Nine West; bracelet, Native American jewelry.
Day 19 – Wednesday. I think Wednesdays are starting to be my causal fashion day. I love this outfit because it is chic yet comfy. When in doubt about an outfit, just follow my two favorite fashion rules: 1) Wear a huge necklace (see day 1 of week 1) or 2) wear a lot of black. Outfit details: white top, Banana Republic; cropped trousers, Express via Platos Closet; cardigan, Old Navy via Platos Closet; flats, Aldo.
Day 20 – Thursday. Spending 76 hours of your 9 hour day in meetings calls for a business appropriate but comfortable (figured out that I like being comfortable yet??) outfit. This collection, all from Banana Republic, fits the bill perfectly. All of the pieces were on sale when I got them (even the shoes!), so it’s a great example of how an outfit can look chic and put together out with having spent a fortune on it. For those curious the entire outfit cost me about $70 ($20 pants, $20 shoes, $20 top, $10 sweater). Great steals no? Outfit details: silk top, Banana Republic; cardigan, Banana Republic via Plato’s; skinny pants, Banana Republic; heels, Jessica Simpson.
Day 21 – Friday. At long last, Friday! I had a group training today, so I wanted to be (you guessed it) comfortable, but still appropriate for the office. I was a little torn on the boots for work, but figured I would go with it as the rest of my outfit was pretty conservative. As for the rest, I haven’t worn this grey sweater in a while, but liked pulling it out again and giving it a new spin. I’m finding that while I wear a lot of clothes repeatedly, I can easily find new ways or different combinations to make them still feel fresh. Outfit details: white top, Banana Republic; grey sweater, Target; jeans, H&M; boots, Nine West.
Have you all seen any trends in my outfits yet (browns with black, browns with grey, browns with white, comfy, uptown, chic?). I find that when I have a particular image in my head that I am dressing for (comy, uptown, chic) that I can really put together an outfit I not only love, but am confident in and know will stand out from the crowd.
